화가 #3. 지오바니 볼디니 | 벨에포크의 대표 화가

[지오바니 볼디니 Giovanni Boldini: 1842 .12.31 ~ 1931.7.11]*

이탈리아의 페라라 출신의 화가이며, 벨 에포크의 가장 상징적인 대표자 중 하나였다.

그의 아버지는 화가이자 필사자였고 조반니는 어려서부터 초상화에 재능을 보였다. 1862년에 명문 피렌체 미술 아카데미에 입학하였고 1869년 그는 런던으로 가서 게인즈버러와 영국 화가들의 작품을 연구했습니다. 1867년 볼디니는 파리 국제 박람회에 가서 에드가 드가, 에두아르 마네, 알프레드 시슬리, 귀스타브 카유보트, 카미유 코로와 친구가 되었다. 1871년 파리로 돌아와 피갈 광장 근처에 정착했습니다. 그의 화가로서 경력은 그가 깊게 사랑했던 도시 파리에서 이루어졌고, 1931년 1월 11일 그가 죽을 때까지 그곳에 머물렀다.

그는 처음에 해변, 시골 풍경, 파리 생활의 순간을 담은 풍경으로 이름을 날렸는데, 전시회가 시작될 때 Petite Palais에서 볼 수 있는 매우 다채롭고 생동감 넘치고 매력적인 작품들이었다. 하지만 1880년대부터는 부유한 상속녀, 패션의 기조를 정한 귀족, 인물, 유명 예술가들의 초상화를 그렸다. 그는 훨씬 더 수익성이 좋은 부유한 고객의 초상화를 선호하며 장르화를 포기하였다.

시대가 바뀌면서 볼디니 그림은 더 이상 유행하지 않았지만, 그림을 그리는 것을 멈추지 않았으며, 1931년 88세의 나이로 파리에서 사망했다.
